Obituary of Donald Hunter Gage

Donald Hunter Gage, age 69 of Hendersonville, passed away Sunday, August 30, 2015. Memorial Service will be Saturday, September 12th at 10:00 a.m. from the chapel of Family Heritage Funeral Home. Interment will be Monday, September 14th at 11:00 a.m. at Nashville National Cemetery in Madison, TN. Mr. Gage was born February 15, 1946 in Long Beach, CA. He is survived by daughters, Lynne Blaisdell (Leon) and Melissa Kroemer (Ethan); grandchildren, Isabel and Andrew. Mr. Gage served in the U. S. Navy as Radioman of the USS Yorktown in Vietnam Gulf of Tonkin. Online condolences may be submitted at familyheritagefh.com Family Heritage Funeral Home in charge of arrangements. Donald Hunter Gage 1946-2015 Donald Hunter Gage is survived by his daughters M. Lynne Blaisdell (Leon), Melissa Kroemer (Ethan), his two grandchildren Isabel and Andrew Kroemer, and Niece Tracey Brown (Bill) and their two daughters Ruth and Heather. Mr. Gage is proceeded in death by his father Darrell Hunter Gage and Ruth Marion Le Blanc, wife Linda Irene Hughes. Donald was a Navel Vietnam Veteran. He served on the USS Yorktown from October of 1967 to May of 1969. He then went on to work for a local construction Union in Southern California, until the early 80’s when he moved the family to Middle Tennessee. Don enjoyed working with HO scale model trains and was a member of the Tennessee Central Railway Museum for over twenty years. He was an avid Santa Fe railroad collector and knowledgeable about most things Santa Fe. He loved being part of the museum and its restoration efforts. He passed his love of trains on to his daughter M. Lynne and to his son in law and grandchildren. Don was also active with the Civil Air Patrol for over 50 years beginning as a cadet in high school. Don was a Colonel and held many positions with in CAP over the years. He loved working with cadets and competition drill teams. After his service in Vietnam he resumed his CAP involvement as an adult member. CAP’s mission at the time was search and rescue for the Air Force. Don has 3 finds and one save to his credit. Don was always ready with a smile of bit of information, many looked to Don for advice on construction and concrete work. Don made friends where even he went, with his easy smile and penchant for giving you a playful hard time once you were considered his friend it was a lifelong adventure. Don was dearly loved by all and will be greatly missed by all that knew him. The family is asking in lieu of flowers for contributions towards funeral expenses.
