Obituary of Bettie Clark Tanner

Bettie Tanner, age 85, passed away on October 8, 2015. The family will be receiving friends at Sellars Funeral Home, Lebanon TN, from 4-8 p.m. on Saturday and from noon until the service on Sunday. The Funeral Service, conducted by Pastor Terry Campbell, is 2 p.m. Sunday, October 11, 2015 in the chapel of Sellars Funeral Home and will be followed by interment in the Gallatin City Cemetery. Family and friends will serve as Pallbearers. Bettie was born July 15, 1930 and grew up in Sparta TN. She worked in the Sparta Shirt Factory, where she met her husband of 54 years, Walter Tanner. Walter became the stitching foreman and later the plant manager of Westmoreland Manufacturing, Bettie took great pride in making a good home for her family. They raised gardens and had a dairy farm for a time while Bettie continued to work outside the home off and on until she retired at age 65. Canning and sewing were passions of hers, as well as keeping a clean and orderly home. After a logging accident took her husband’s life in 2005, Bettie sold her house in Gallatin and built a house in Lebanon to be closer to her son Anthony and his family. Mrs. Tanner is preceded in death by her husband Walter A. Tanner, parents William Earl Clark and Beatrice Lavada Hutson Clark, sisters Nellie Rea and Mary Lou Clark all of Sparta TN, and brothers Franklin, Anslo, and Willie of Sparta, Abbie of Norfolk VA, and H.N. of San Diego CA. She is survived by sons Michael Tanner (JoAnn) of Murfreesboro TN and Anthony Tanner (Renee) of Lebanon TN, grandchildren Gregory of Murfreesboro and LeAnna and LaDonna of Lebanon, numerous nieces and nephews, and cousins. Sellars Funeral Home, Lebanon TN, 615.44.9393.
