Obituary of Barbara Norwood Westmoreland Barton

Barbara Barton, age 86, of Lebanon, passed on January 25, 2016. No services scheduled. She is survived by children: Beverly Ervin (Bill), Debbie Heaslip (Craig), Greg Westmoreland (Donna), Nancy Westmoreland, and Jane McCraven; 6 grandchildren; and 13 great-grandchildren. Barbara was born during the Depression on December 6, 1929, to John and Florrie Norwood in Waxhaw, NC, the 6th child in a family of seven. As a young child she was fun loving and happy. She was married to Thomas Westmoreland in October of 1946 until October of 1959 in Charlotte, NC and they had 5 children: Beverly, Debbie, Greg, Nancy and Jane. During her lifetime she wore many hats. She began her work life in sales, selling children’s clothing at a shop downtown at age 16. Not only was she a homemaker, but she went on to sell Tupperware, Dutch Maid clothing, Amway as well as other lines. Later she did clerical, secretarial, legal secretarial work, dance instructor, insurance sales agent, building contractor and real estate agent. She loved to read, knit, crochet, play bridge, golf and garden. She loved dogs, especially her Dobermans: Fritz, Sugar and Freda. She studied Journalism at CPCC and worked at the Charlotte Observer for a while. Psalm 23 was her favorite bible verse. She loved her family and life in general.
