Obituary of Mary Ellen Oakes

Mary Ellen Oakes, age 92 of Gallatin, passed away Wednesday March 9, 2016. Funeral Service will be Friday March 11th at 1:00 p.m. from the chapel of Alexander Funeral Home, with Timothy Wayne Davis, Jr. officiating. Interment will follow at Crestview Memory Gardens. Visitation will be Thursday March 10th from 4:00 – 8:00 p.m. and Friday March 11th from 10:00 a.m. until time of service. Mrs. Oakes was born September 21, 1923 In Water Valley Mississippi, to the late Issac Dudley Oakes and Josephine Elmira Sweeney Oakes. In addition to her parents, she is preceded in death by husband, James Henry Oakes, Sr.; daughter, Jo Ellen Oakes Miles; and brothers, Issac Dudley Oakes, Jr., Marvin Edward “Brother” Oakes, and John Henry “Buddy” Oakes. She is survived by son, James Henry Oakes, Jr. (Linda) of Gallatin; daughter, Mary Jane Piburn (Bill) of Gallatin; 2 grandchildren, Olivia Ellen Piburn Davis (Timmy), and Jesse Oakes Piburn (Ashley); and 5 great grandchildren, Sophia Ellen Davis, Mary Rose Davis, Timothy Wayne Davis III, Elsie Jean Davis, and Evelyn Jane Davis. Mrs. Oakes was the owner of Oakes Dari Delite and Oakes Drive In. She was a member of Hartsville Pike Church of Christ. Online condolences may be submitted at alexanderfh.info.
