Obituary of Chester Paul Wegenka

Wegenka , Chester Paul - Born in South Bend, Indiana, July 6, 1925, to Walter V and Blanche H. (Napieralski) Wegenka. Preceded in death, by his parents, 4 brothers - Robert, Walt, Danny, Frank and 2 sisters- Rita and Pat. Survived by one sister, Mary Jane Fowler of Brewster, New York. Survived by the love of his life, wife, Marilyn R. Voroil. They met at a water polo match in Feb of 1948. They were married in Fort Wayne, Indiana, Nov 18, 1950. Also survived by four sons, Mark, Chris, Roch, Quin, and 5 daughters, Lea, Janice, Karla, Angela and Nina, 22 Grandchildren and 17 Great Grand Children. Attended St. Stanislaus grade school and graduated from South Bend Central High School, 24th August 1943. A member of the Greatest Generation, a World War II Veteran, was inducted into the U.S. Navy, 9th of Sept 1943. He served as an electrician aboard the USS LCI 696 from June 1944 to May 1946. He was in the Pacific with the 3rd Fleet, awaiting the invasion of Japan, when the war ended. In June 1951 was recalled to duty in the Navy during the Korean War, stationed at the US Navy yard in Bremerton, Washington. Attended Indiana Tech from Feb 1947 till May 1950. He graduated with a Degree in Electrical Engineering; Worked in this field for 41 years as an aerospace engineer for North American Aviation in Columbus, Ohio and design engineer for Dow Chemical in Findlay, Ohio, retired in April 1993. Visitation and Funeral Services will be held on May 19th, Thursday at St. Stephen Catholic Community, 14544 Lebanon Rd, Old Hickory, TN 37138, visitation will be from 9 am to 11:00 am, with a Funeral Mass to follow at 11:00am.
