Obituary of Norma Kerr Jenkins

Norma Kerr Jenkins, age 99, of Gallatin TN, passed into the next life on July 10, 2016. Funeral Service will be Friday July 15th at 11:00 a.m. from the chapel of Family Heritage Funeral Home, with Rev. John Penfield officiating. Interment will follow at Sumner Memorial Gardens, with friends and family serving as pallbearers. Visitation will be Thursday July 14th from 4:00 – 7:00 p.m., and Friday July 15th from 9:00 a.m. until time of service. Norma was born on November 26, 1916 in Pitts Point (Bullitt County) Kentucky to Roscoe I. Kerr, Sr., M.D., and Katherine Gilbert Kerr. She grew up in Shepherdsville and Louisville, KY, the third of five children. She attended Georgetown College and was a teacher during her early adult years. She married Victor A. Jenkins on December 9, 1941. In December of 1955, Norma and Vic moved to Gallatin, TN, where he purchased the local Chevrolet dealership, which became Vic Jenkins Chevrolet, a fixture in the community and region over the next 60 years. She is the longest continuous employee of Vic Jenkins Automotive, starting work in the office of the dealership in 1956 and continuing to work several days a week even in her 90s. She was on the job June 27th, before suffering a fall at home and entering the hospital on June 29th. She was an active member of Gallatin First Baptist Church, having served many years as a Sunday School teacher, children’s choir leader and pianist. She was a charter member of a local bridge club, continuing to play until just a year or two ago. She was predeceased by her parents, R. I. Kerr, Sr., M.D. and Katherine Gilbert Kerr; 3 sisters, Christine Kerr Cawthorne (and husband Don); Ruth Kerr LaRue (and husband Bob) and Armeta Kerr Mastin (and husband Eben), and her husband of 49 years, Vic, who passed away in 1991. She is survived by two sons, Scott Jenkins (Sharon) of Gallatin and Greg Jenkins (Diane) Greenville, SC; four grandchildren, Todd Jenkins (Michelle), Beth Jenkins Allen (Calvin), Ellen Jenkins and Lucie Jenkins; two great grandchildren, Jacob Allen and Katelyn Allen; a brother, Roscoe I. Kerr, Jr. (Louisville, KY), nieces Tina Kerr Kahl (John) and Marylu Kerr Stewart (David); nephew Eben Mastin (Lisa); and niece Katherine Mastin.
