Obituary of Richard Sadler Gambill

GAMBILL, Richard Sadler, was born in Greenville, SC on March 4, 1934 to Russell Floyd and Miriam Miller Gambill. He grew up on Tybee Island near Savannah, GA and attended Benedictine Military School. There he excelled in academics and sports, earning a football scholarship to the University of South Carolina. Though an injury prevented his participation in the USC football program, he followed sports avidly throughout his life. Dick Gambill was a remarkably gifted construction superintendant and surveyor with a long and varied career that took him all over the world and lasted a lifetime. His most recent years were spent with his work family at Civic Engineering. He was a man that loved God, his dearest wife of 18 years and his family. There are volumes that could be written about him but we can only say here that he was well and truly loved and will be missed every day. We are grateful for the extraordinary care shown in his last months of life by his co-workers, friends, church family and the amazing staff at Alive Hospice of Nashville, TN. He is survived by his loving wife, friend, and traveling companion, Mildred B. Gambill; daughters, Catherine Gambill Sutton and Marie Gambill Pearce (Sid); sons, Rick East (Donna) and James Russell Gambill (Shawna); step-daughter, Julie Watts (Terry); eleven grandchildren; and nine great-grandchildren. There will be a visitation at Sellars Funeral Home at Mt. Juliet on Saturday, August 27th from 2-4 pm with a memorial service immediately following in the chapel. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Alive Hospice of Nashville, TN or Cornerstone Church, 726 W. Old Hickory Blvd, Madison, TN 37115. Arrangements by Sellars Funeral Home at Mt. Juliet, 2229 N. Mt. Juliet Road, Mt. Juliet, TN 37122, 615-758-5459, obituary line 615-758-8818, www.sellarsfuneralservices.com
