Obituary of Sumner A. Franklin

Sumner “Chuck” Allison Franklin, age 95 of Gallatin, passed away Monday August 29, 2016. Funeral Service will be Wednesday August 31st at 2:00 p.m. from the chapel of Family Heritage Funeral Home, with Bro. Jonathan England officiating. Interment will follow at Crestview Memory Gardens. Visitation will be Tuesday August 30th from 2:00 – 8:00 p.m. and Wednesday August 31st from 12:00 noon until time of service. He is preceded in death by wife of 65 yrs., Mabel Taylor Franklin, parents, Steve A. & Hillie Cocke Franklin; half-brothers: Nathan, L.H., Thomas V. & Walker Franklin & half-sister, Alma Brown; and grandson, Mark Sumner Franklin. Chuck graduated Gallatin High School in 1940 where he played basketball then served in the U.S. Army in WWII in France from 1942-46. For many years he was a coach in Little League baseball, referred high school basketball games and loved to go fishing. He worked at Crescent & Sterchi’s Furniture and upon retirement he and Mabel owned Gallatin Book & Jewelry for 10 years. Then they both retired and traveled the U.S. with friends and family. Chuck attended Bush’s Chapel Church of Christ where he served as an elder for over 30+ years. He worked within his community and was a long-time member and Past President of the Gallatin Kiwanis Club. He is survived by son, Thomas Sumner (Pat); granddaughter, Joy (Jason) Hiett, of Nashville; and grandchildren, Ellis Andrew and Sumner Grace Hiett.
