Obituary of Carl Robert Schmaedig

Carl Robert Schmaedig of Lebanon, suddenly and unexpectedly passed away at the age of 66 on Saturday, Aug 27, 2016 while camping and visiting friends in Niceville, Florida. Carl was born in New York City on July 9, 1950 to parents Carl H. and Frances (Waters) Schmaedig. After graduating from Arthur L. Johnson Regional High School in Clark, New Jersey, he entered the United States Air Force in December 1969 where he proudly and honorably served his country for 22 years, retiring with the rank of Senior Master Sergeant (E-8) in April 1992. Following his Air Force career, Carl moved to Lebanon with his wife Sheila (Thurley) in 1994. He was employed by Cracker Barrel and worked in their corporate offices until retiring in February 2008. In retirement, he enjoyed camping, flying remote-controlled airplanes, motorcycling and shooting. Carl is survived by his wife of 40 years, Sheila Schmaedig; brother Curt (Darlene) Schmaedig; sister-in-law Diane Roddey; brother-in-law Rod (Dawn) Thurley; nieces Carrie (Marc) Schaub, Jennifer Thurley, Hannah Thurley; nephews Hunter Thurley and Joshua Crosslin; great-nieces Isley Cross and Carly Schaub; great nephews Trenton and Ronan Cross; and many loving friends. The family will be receiving friends at Sellars Funeral Home in Lebanon, TN from 1 - 4 PM on Sunday, September 11 with a memorial service following at 4:00 PM.
