Obituary of John B. Wilkes, Sr.

John B. Wilkes, Sr., age 97 of Madison, Al, formerly Portland, TN. passed away Thursday October 20, 2016. Funeral Service will be Monday October 24th at 2:00 p.m. from the chapel of Family Heritage Funeral Home, with Reverend Alan Hughes officiating. Interment will follow at the Gallatin Cemetery, with John B. Wilkes, III, Andrew Wilkes, Nathanael Wilkes, Al Bentley, Lee Wilkes, and Joe Wilkes serving as pallbearers. Visitation will be Monday October 24th from 12:00 noon until time of service. Mr. Wilkes was born December 7, 1918 in Castalian Springs to the late Alonzo D. Wilkes and Cordie Rutledge Wilkes. In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by brothers, Durwood Wilkes, James Wilkes, Robert Wilkes, and David “Buddy” Wilkes; and sisters, Irma Bentley, Lucille Bolton, Edna Mathers, and Essie Lee Mann. He is survived by wife of 65 years, Jean Wilkes of Madison, Al; son, John B. Wilkes, Jr (Linda) of Toney, AL; 5 grandchildren, John B Wilkes, III, Meredith Wilkes, Olivia Wilkes, Andrew Wilkes, and Nathanael Wilkes; brother, Joe Wilkes (Mary Lee) of Gallatin; and sister, Virginia Douglass (Ned) of Gallatin.
