Obituary of Joe D. Nash

MR. JOE NASH - age 75 of Lafayette, TN passed away on Friday morning, April 29, 2011 at Hartsville Convalescent Center. Funeral services for Joe Nash were conducted Sunday afternoon at 1 p.m. from the Alexander Funeral Home with Brother Tony Day officiating. Adam Nash, Kery Nash, Josh Raney, Matt Looper, Jason Bartley, and Jason Vinson served as Active Pallbearers. Interment followed in the Nelson-McDonald Cemetery. Joe was born on October 20, 1935 in Macon County, Tennessee to A. C. and Ercie Grant Nash. He was one of eight children born to this union. On December 27, 1955, he was married to Belvie Faye Ellis, sharing fifty-six years. Together they raised a daughter and three sons. Ms. Belvie survives. Besides his parents; brothers, Benton Nash and Edmond Nash, sisters, Lillie Carter and Hattie Scurlock, and a great-grandson, Mason Nash, also preceded him in death. After getting out of school, Joe served his country in the United States Air Force. Following his service time, Joe began working for Arvin's in Franklin, IN before moving back to Lafayette to make his home. He went to work for the Cheese Plant for 10 years and later worked for Texas Boot for around 10 years. With the closing of Texas Boot, Joe joined the Macon County Sheriff's Department as a Deputy where he worked until his health began to fail in 1979. He began delivering the news for The Tennessean which he continued for many years. Although his public work history was extensive, it could never take the place of his true love, farming. Joe and Belvie had done farm work together for many years. He always stayed busy, whether it was milking cows, raising tobacco, or topping out hogs. In his spare time, he enjoyed hunting and fishing and watching any kind of ball game on the television. Over the years he also had enjoyed trading knives and guns. Joe was saved as a young boy and was baptized into Antioch Missionary Baptist Church where he remained a member. Joe was loved by all of his many family members and friends and will be greatly missed. He is survived by; Wife, Belvie Nash of Lafayette, TN, Daughter, Joey and husband Lewis Hardin of Westmoreland, TN, Sons, Calvin and wife JoAnn Nash, Jackie and wife Regina Nash, and Timmy and wife Melinda Nash all of Lafayette, TN, Grandchildren, Adam and wife Gena Nash of Lafayette, TN, Kery and wife Tabitha Nash of Red Boiling Springs, TN, Josh Raney of Westmoreland, TN, Heather and husband Jason Bartley, Bailey and husband Matt Looper, Brookie and husband Jason Vinson, Timmy and wife Brandy Reid, Anthony and wife Kristin Reid all of Lafayette, TN, Dana Reid of Mount Juliet, TN, Sisters, Vallie Dillehay of Red Boiling Springs, TN and Jewel Jones of Alabama, Brother, Amos Nash of Lafayette, TN, and 14 Great-grandchildren, also survive.
