Obituary of Martha N. Smith

Martha N. Smith, age 92 of Gallatin, passed away Sunday, February 26, 2017. Memorial Service will be Saturday, March 11th at 1:00 p.m. from the chapel of Family Heritage Funeral Home, with Dr. Charles Moffatt officiating and Kyle Heckman and Kent Heckman honoring her. Visitation will be Saturday, March 11th from 11:00 a.m. until time of service at 1:00 pm. Mrs. Smith was born September 7, 1924 in Perry County, KY to the late Adam Napier and Fairalene Smith Napier. She was a long time elementary school teacher in Sumner County. For decades, she, her husband & family owned & ran the Sumner Drive-In Theater on Nashville Pike. She, along with family, also built & ran the original Dairy Queen in Gallatin. In addition to her parents, she is preceded in death by husband, Harold N. Smith; brother, Mitchell Napier; sister, Gladys Akins; and son-in-law, Walter “Butch” Heckman. She is survived by son, Harold Glenn Smith of Nashville; daughter, Joy Smith Heckman of Nashville; 4 grandchildren, Kyle Heckman (Stephanie), Kent Heckman (Amy), Austin Smith, and Jacob Smith; and 3 great grandchildren, Matthew Heckman, Luke Heckman, and Grant Heckman; nephew Brad Gryszko. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the National Multiple Sclerosis Society, 214 Overlook Circle, Suite 153, Brentwood, TN 37027. American Cancer Society or Susan G Komen Breast Cancer Fund.
