Obituary of Patricia "Pat" June Bates

Patricia “Pat” June Bates of Hendersonville passed away on Thursday, August 12, 2021 at the age of 82. Pat was born on August 1, 1939 in Flint, Michigan to the late Irvin and Martha Greer. After graduating from Western Kentucky University, she went to work for the University of Kentucky as an assistant home agent in Logan County, Kentucky. Later she taught school at Auburn, Kentucky. She was a long time member of the Hendersonville Church of Christ where she served as a secretary and teacher for several years. She was a wonderful wife (sweetie), mom and granny. Pat is survived by her loving and devoted husband of 62 years, Ernest Bates; three sons, Richard Lee Bates, Douglas Randall Bates, and Thomas Jeffery Bates; two granddaughters, Lauren Marie Bates and Lindsey Marie (Bret) Grizzard; one great-granddaughter, Charlotte Marie Grizzard; two sisters, Sandra (Jean) Smith and Peggy (Jim) Harrison. A funeral service will be held on Monday, August 16th at 12 pm from the chapel of Sellars Funeral Home at Hendersonville with preacher Keith Parker officiating, Tate Burgess singing, and David Swanger reading the Eulogy. Interment will follow the service at Hendersonville Memory Gardens with Richard Bates, Tommy Bates, Doug Bates, Marion Bradford, Wayne Gleason, and Austyn Dunnebacke serving as pallbearers. Visitation with the family will be Sunday, August 15th from 3-7 pm and Monday, August 16th from 11 am until time of service. The family recommends masks during visitation and service but they aren’t mandatory.
