Obituary of Margaret Pelham Bugbee

Margaret Bugbee, 96, recently of Gallatin, TN, died at Brookdale Gallatin peacefully on the morning of Friday, September 10. She, and her late husband Roy F. Bugbee Jr., spent most of their lives in Nashville and Brentwood. Margaret and Roy had four children — Peg Moore (Skip) of Greensboro NC; Fran Murrah (Phil) of Memphis; Tom Bugbee (Lisa) of Gallatin; and, Julie Wiegand (Bob) of Oriental, NC. She was blessed with five grandchildren — Sara Moore Stroud (Taylor), Brian Moore, Katie Murrah (fiancé Richie Van Sickle), Daniel Bugbee (Heather), Michael Bugbee (Elizabeth). Her eight great grandchildren include Parker, John, and Asher Stroud; Emerson, Caroline, and Davis Bugbee; and, Fuller and Georgia Bugbee. She reveled in her family and always had a killer chess or fudge pie ready when they came to visit. A cheerful optimist, she was friendly and open to everyone. She loved playing cards with family. Her game of choice was “3-13” and she delighted in regularly trouncing whomever she was playing. During her years in Franklin she was a loyal and “full time” volunteer at GraceWorks Ministry, a nonprofit that operates a thrift store, food pantry, and furniture outlet and provides counseling and outreach for the less fortunate. A staff/volunteer celebration luncheon was held on Margaret’s 90th birthday, celebrating 18 years of her volunteer work. GraceWorks said “The hours she puts in for free make money for GraceWorks to give food to the hungry, help with rent or utility bills and provide school supplies and Christmas gifts and other basics of life for Williamson County families in need.” She was nominated by GraceWorks, and was awarded, a “Volunteer Spirit Award” by the 8th annual Franklin Tomorrow Community Volunteer Award and Volunteer Spirit Awards program. Why did she volunteer so much? “I enjoy the work and what GraceWorks represents in helping people. I like to mingle with the customers in the store. You never know when somebody comes here what load they are bearing. I say hello to them and smile, and sometimes they will turn around and tell you a sad story. I’ve had such a good life. This is a good payback for my life. “ The family will gather for a private graveside service. In lieu of flowers, please consider a contribution to GraceWorks to honor her life. Contributions may be sent to GraceWorks at 104 Southeast Parkway Franklin, TN 37064. Online condolences may be submitted at familyheritagefh.com.
