Obituary of Susan Clark (Taplin) McClarnon

Susan Clark (Taplin) McClarnon, DNP, FNP, APRN passed away 10/11/2021 after a sudden illness. She is survived by her son, Tyler Taplin of West Hartford Connecticut, son, Zane Taplin of Nashville, TN, brother Marshall McClarnon, Jr. (Holly) Knoxville, TN, sister, Margaret Norris (Robert) Gallatin, TN, nieces, Evelyn Barnett (Paul), Kaytie Gregory (John), Meghan Castro (Emerson) 3 nephews, Trey McClarnon (Kate), Chad McClarnon (Trista), Matthew Kreger, 3 great nieces and 3 great nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents Marshall H McClarnon, Sr, Anne Battle West McClarnon and sister, Mary Lee McClarnon Kreger. Susan C. McClarnon was born April 13,1964 to Marshall and Anne McClarnon, Sr. She was raised in a military family and moved a lot as a child but settled in the Middle Tennessee area where she graduated from Gallatin Senior High School in 1982. Susan joined the United States Marine Corps soon after high school and served 10 years in the Marine Corps reserves as a Sergeant. Six out of the ten years, she spent in active duty, which included Operation Desert Storm. Susan then embarked on a career in Nursing receiving an ADRN from TSU, Class of 1991, a BSN in 1996 from UAH, her master’s degree in FNP from Belmont University and a Doctor of Nursing Practice in 2014 from Belmont University. Susan started her nursing career in young adult oncology, served many years at an allergy practice, served as the Director of Nursing at the Sihanouk Hospital Center of Hope in Phnom Penh, Cambodia, became an Assistant Professor of Nursing at Belmont University, and in the last few years had returned to her first love- caring for oncology patients. Susan moved from middle Tennessee to Snohomish, Washington, and last year accepted a position as a Clinical Trials Nurse Practitioner at Hartford Healthcare Cancer Institute in West Hartford, Connecticut. Susan actively loved God and is one of His children. She loved swimming, biking, running, and dancing. Fitness was her jam and she competed in many marathons and triathlons. Susan (known as “Clark” to her friends and colleagues in Connecticut) enjoyed fitness and joined several biking and swimming clubs, where she made many friends. She cherished her time with her boys, her family in Knoxville, TN, Nashville and Gallatin, TN, and her extended family in Missouri. Funeral Service for Susan will be held at 3pm on November 13, 2021, at the Family Heritage Funeral Home at 100 Albert Gallatin Ave, Gallatin, TN. Visitation with the family will be from 1 to 3pm. The service will be streamed on Funeral Home Website for those that cannot physically attend.
