Obituary of Tammy Terese Adams

Tammy Terese (nee: Griffith) Adams, age 53 of Hermitage, TN passed away on January 5th, 2022 after an almost 12-year battle with ocular melanoma.

She was born on April 7th, 1968 in Scottsboro, Alabama to Mr. and Mrs. John Harold Griffith of Pleasant View.  Tammy graduated from Sylvania High School in 1985.  After graduation Tammy moved with her mother and two younger sisters to Huntsville, Alabama.  Tammy became an 18-year-old realtor.  At the time she was the youngest realtor in the state of Alabama.  While she only sold real estate for a short time, her love of homes never left her.  Tammy accepted Christ and joined Whitesburg Baptist Church in 1985. At Whitesburg she met her future husband, Perry.  They were married on July 1, 1989 and went on to have two children, Andrea and Phillip.  During her years at Whitesburg, she went on several church-led mission trips.  Even years later, she would talk about the joy of giving a man eyeglasses which improved his vision enabling him to get a job as a driver.

In 2000, Tammy’s husband took a job in Nashville, Tennessee.  Tammy was a member of The Church at Avenue South, a regional campus of Brentwood Baptist Church in Nashville. She led the Church’s nurture team to encourage other volunteers as they ministered to the congregation during times of need, made gift baskets for new mothers and bereavement baskets.  She found great joy in shopping for and giving gifts.

Tammy loved travel and was good at planning family vacations.  She, with the help of her husband, created beautiful landscapes with flowers and shrubs around each of their homes.  She found joy in small, back-yard vegetable gardens and enjoyed watching hummingbirds come to feeders she kept on her porch.  She had a particular fondness for orchids, her favorite indoor houseplant.

Tammy is survived by her husband Perry Adams, daughter Andrea (Luke) Sprague, son Phillip (Shelby) Adams, mother Linda Wilkerson, sister Melody (Andrew) Power, sister Gina Mardos, stepsister-in-law Beth Wilkerson, stepbrother Kerry (Pam) Wilkerson, stepbrother Kelly (Mardi) Wilkerson, stepbrother Todd Wilkerson, grandson James Sprague, grandson Peter Sprague and many nieces and nephews.

Services will be held Monday, January 10th, 2022 at Sellars Funeral Home (2229 N. Mt. Juliet Road, Mt. Juliet, TN 37122) at 11:00am with visitation from 9:00 - 11:00am. While flowers are welcome, if you instead feel led, in lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to our goods friends at Care Kitchen Outreach (www.carekitchenoutreach.com).
