Obituary of Derinda Joy Tignor

Derinda “Granny D “Tignor was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, sister, Christian and friend. She left this world peacefully on January 30, 2022 surrounded by loved ones.

She was born and raised in Louisville, Kentucky. After graduating high school, she moved to Nashville to attend David Lipscomb University, where she would meet and marry the love of her life, Bobby Tignor. Together they had two precious children: Jason and Leslie.

Derinda loved being a mother and while working as a middle school secretary, she would soon become a mother and a mentor to hundreds of students who crossed her path. She always stuck up for those that needed it, and always fought for what was right.

If you were lucky enough to encounter Mrs. Tignor you have heard one or more of the following words or phrases: Hi Sweetheart; What on earth are you doing?; Hey darlin’; Let’s have a good day; Love You; Get back to class; Sugar Dumplin; Lord have mercy; Sugarfoot; and Sweetie Pie. Out of all of these words and phrases the one that you would hear her say the most was “love you”.   Of course, Jason and Leslie heard additional phases such as: Don’t make me pull this car over; You better wipe that look off your face; Wait till your dad gets home; but most of all they heard; Hey Sissy, Hey Bubba, it’s your mom, I just wanted to call and tell you I love you.

Her greatest joy in life was her three grandchildren: Trace, Lily, and Bailey.  She loved them so much and found every opportunity to pull out a picture of them, or talk about them with everyone she met. Her loving, playful, animated personality was addictive, but not as much as her smile and laugh. If you ever spent more than five minutes with her, you were laughing and guaranteed to have a better day.

After retiring she spent most of her time volunteering at assisted living facilities where she found joy in loving on others any way she could. Derinda loved and adored everyone and brought so much joy and laughter to the world.

After being diagnosed with Parkinson’s, her health started to rapidly decline.  She still managed to crack jokes through the pain, use her quick wit to keep us on our toes, and comfort us through the obvious. Derinda Tignor is ONE of a kind and she will be greatly missed.

In lieu of flowers, please feel free to donate to The Parkinson’s Association at www.apdaparkinson.org or Alzheimer Association at www.act.alz.org.

The Funeral Service will be held on Friday, February 4th at 12pm at Sellars Funeral Home at Mt. Juliet with Pastor Andy Connelly officiating. The Interment will follow the service at Hermitage Memorial Gardens at 1:30 pm. The Visitation will be held on Thursday, February 3rd from 4-8pm and on Friday, February 4th from 11am until time of service at 12pm.
