Obituary of Leslie "Les" Earnest Dicken, Jr

Leslie “Les” Earnest Dicken, Jr, was born November 24,1946, to Dorothy Dicken Boles and Leslie Earnest Dicken, Sr.  He graduated from Moline High School in 1964, and raised three children Lane Dicken, Anthony Baker, and Hope (Shane) Davis.  He was a wonderful friend, father, and grandfather that will be dearly missed.

Les was employed at Alcoa in Bettendorf, Iowa, for 33 years before retiring in 2001.  Drag racing has been his passion throughout life.  He enjoyed working on race engines and watching his son and grandsons race the cars he worked on.  He deeply valued seeing the hard work pay off in terms of success, especially at the races.  Les cherished friends and family.  He rarely turned down visits to restaurants for breakfast or dinner, and was never seen without a Pepsi in hand.  Les looked for opportunities to help others.  He did simple things, like surprise his daughter-in-law by assembling patio furniture, or stopping over to help neighbors with projects.  He did big things, too.  He helped move family across the country and he also gave multiple friends and family a place to live. He truly had a heart of gold.

He was preceded in death by his mother Dorothy Boles, father Leslie Dicken Sr, step father Woodrow Boles, Sister DeAnne Duncan.

Mr. Dicken is survived by his sister, Cheri Geurink, sons Lane (Sara) Dicken and Anthony Baker, daughter Hope (Shane) Davis, grandsons Daniel and Andrew Dicken, Michael (Courtney) Begeske, and Chase and Mason Baker, and granddaughter Nicole (Bryn) Smith.
