Obituary of Rev. Delwyn Fryer

 Rev. Samuel Delwyn Fryer

Rev. Delwyn Fryer, age 96, passed away peacefully at his home on Thursday, May 19,2022.  Visitation will be Tuesday, May 24 at 10 a.m. at Gallatin First United Methodist Church, followed by a worship service at 12 noon in the sanctuary.  Rev. Dr. Ted Hill and Bob Snell will officiate. Burial will be in the Springfield Memorial Gardens on Wednesday, May 25 at 11 a.m.  In lieu of flowers the family requests that memorial contributions be made to Meals on Wheels c/o Gallatin First United Methodist Church, 149 West Main Street, Gallatin, TN  37066.  Face masks will be required during the visitation and service.

Delwyn was born July 27, 1925 to the late Zack and Emma Choate Fryer in Robertson County, Tennessee. He attended Austin Peay State University and Vanderbilt University School of Religion. He served as a United Methodist minister for 58 years, 18 of those years at Mt. Pleasant United Methodist Church in White House after retiring from Gallatin First United Methodist Church in 1990. He began his career in ministry with a five-church charge in Stewart County, while a full-time college student.  He served other appointments in Jordonia/Scottsboro, St Bethlehem, Waverly, Nashville (Tulip Street UMC), Manchester, Hendersonville, Ashland City, Lebanon, Gallatin and White House.

Along with his parents, Rev. Fryer is preceded in death by his brother, Jeff Fryer. He is survived by his loving wife and partner in ministry of 78 years, Marie Castelow Fryer; children Joel (Renee) Fryer of Gallatin; Sherry (Raymond) Georges of Savannah, Ga; grandchildren Chase (Christina) Fryer; Zachary (Amanda) Fryer; Rebecca (Ryan) Ross; Vicki (Sean) Shinick; great-grandchildren Evie Ann, James and Finn Fryer, Everett Fryer, Levi, Shelby and Bailey Ross, Sarah and Jake Shinick.
