Obituary of David Eugene Spencer, "Mr. Dave"

SPENCER, David “Mr. Dave” Eugene, age 80 of Old Hickory, Tennessee, passed away on January 26, 2023.

Dave was known as “Mr. Dave” by many who knew him. He served his country in the United States Army and was stationed in Thailand for a year. He also was once named “Soldier of the Month” Dave was very proud to be a Veteran.

He was a blessing to everyone he met. He was a “gentle giant” and a compassionate and kindhearted man who never met a stranger.

Those who knew him well knew he was a hardworking man. Dave was with National Car Rental for 18 years and with Tractor Supply Company for over 20 years. He also worked part-time for Nashville Motors for many years. Dave was still working part time for both TSC and the car lot at the time of his passing. A “Jack of All Trades,” there was nothing he couldn’t figure out how to fix.

He was born in Minnesota on October 31, 1942, and was a passionate Minnesota Vikings fan. He was also a big fan of NASCAR, and he enjoyed bowling on a league in his younger years.

As a supporter of the American Heart Association and as a reflection of his kind, loving heart, Dave chose to be an organ/tissue donor. He was a kind and Godly man and was a member of Victory Baptist Church. He loved his family and friends immensely and will be dearly missed by all who knew him.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Stuart and Jenny Spencer; and siblings, Lynn Spencer, Lavonne “Bonnie” Kreamer (Wilbur), Lyle Spencer (Diane), Donna Roiko, Larry “Butch” Spencer, and Lenora “Ann” Strong.

He is survived by his loving wife of 58 years, Gwyndolyn Spencer; children, Gina Spencer and Sonya Spencer Shockley; sibling, Ruth Sanders; grandchildren, Spencer Shockley and Makayla Shockley; sisters-in-law, Carol Spencer and Mary Spencer; brother-in-law, Paul Strong. He is also survived by numerous nieces, nephews, relatives, and friends.
