Obituary of Michael Dennis Schmitz

Schmitz, Michael Dennis, age 54, of Lebanon, passed away on Friday, January 27, 2023.

Mike was born on January 22, 1969 in North Miami, Florida to the late Charles and Shirley Ann (Banta) Schmitz.

He loved life and lived every single day to the fullest. Even though he had some physical limitations, he never let that stop him. He loved to fish, hunt, ride 4-wheelers, camp and enjoyed everything about the outdoors. He also played many sports including wheelchair softball with the National Wheelcats softball league. In his earlier years, he played Rugby and Tennis. He loved his NuCanoe family and found a true home there. He also donated his time to Hero’s on the Water and spent many hours organizing, planning and putting together disabled kayak clinics with the Wheelcats organization. He was an Ambassador for Bending Branches and Pro Staff for Neverlost Gear. He studied Psychology and Human Services at Ann Arundel College in Maryland. Mike loved the Lord and was also a member of Mt. Juliet Church of Christ. He never met a stranger and cherished all his friends and family more than anything in this world. He had a great sense of humor and a huge smile that you will never forget.

He is survived by his wife, Kristi (Larson) Schmitz; Children, Jason House (Marie), Courtney Clary (Chad), and David House; Siblings, Andy Schmitz (Mechelle), Chuck Schmitz, and Brian Player; Aunts, Patty Willoughby, Carolyn Rose (Jon), and Jeanette Davis; Grandchildren, Madison, Noah, Abigail, Casen, Landon, Charlotte and Rylah. He is also survived by numerous relatives and tons of friends. He has touched many.

Celebration of Life Service will be held on Friday, February 3, 2023 at 1:00 pm at the Mt. Juliet Church of Christ, 1940 Mt. Juliet Rd., Mt. Juliet, Tennessee 37122. A visitation will be held on Friday from 11:00 am until the time of service at 1:00 pm at the church.

If you choose to send flowers, they can be sent to the church on Friday, February 3 after 9:30 am.
