Obituary of James Earl Berry

James (Jim) Earl Berry, age 88, of Mt. Juliet, Tennessee, passed away on Wednesday, July 6, 2023, at AHC in Mt. Juliet following a brief illness. James was born March 6, 1935, in Sidney, Iowa to his parents, Winfield Berry and Roxie Myrtle May (Tanner) Berry. James enlisted in the U.S Army in 1956 and served until 1959. He became a Para Trooper while in the Army in 101st Airborne in Fort Campbell and loved his time completing numerous jumps. After his discharge, he moved to Nashville, Tennessee where he worked as a mechanic and raced cars at the Nashville Speedway. He later moved to Mt. Juliet, Tennessee and ran a mechanic shop out of his home for many years. His last few years were spent in the AHC in Mt. Juliet.

James was preceded in death by his parents; Winfield Berry and Roxie Myrtle May (Tanner) Berry; brothers, Blaine, Dwight, Clyde, Bob, and David; infant sister, Dorothy; and infant son, James Matthew. He is survived by his daughter, Betty Darlene (Berry) McKnight and husband Mike of Dawson Springs, Kentucky; grandchildren, Rachel Donaldson, Ryan and Rihana McKnight of Dawson Springs, Kentucky; sisters, Evelyn Hurlburt of Randolph, Iowa, Ethel Crawford of Hastings, Iowa, Daisy Malcom and husband Dave of Randolph, Iowa, Judy Foster and husband Manford of Randolph, Iowa and a host of nieces, nephews, and other relatives and friends.

The Visitation will be held on Thursday July 13, 2023, from 8-9am at Sellars Funeral Home at Mt. Juliet.  The Military Honors will be rendered on Thursday at 10am at Middle Tennessee State Veterans Cemetery.
