Obituary of "Father Pete" Henry Perkins Minton, Jr.
Father Henry Perkins Minton, Jr, aka, Father Pete, age 85 of Gallatin, passed away on Sunday, October 8, 2023. There will be a Celebration of Life at a later date. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Episcopal Missionary Church, P.O. Box 157, Monteagle, TN 37356-0157, or to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, TN 38105-9959.
Father Pete was born February 6, 1938 in Franklin, TN to the late Henry Perkins Minton, Sr and Elizabeth Carter Henderson Minton. In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by brother, Thomas P. “Tom” Minton. He is survived by wife of 61 years, Rosalind “Rosie” Smith Minton of Gallatin; children, William Beasley “Bill” Scales (Lori) of Eureka Springs, Arkansas, Ellsworth Stevens “Steve” Scales (Anita) of Daytona Beach, FL, Elizabeth Scales Mayo (Randy) of Foley, Alabama, and Henry P. Minton III (Tonya) of Franklin, KY; 6 grandchildren; 7 great grandchildren; and his devoted caregiver, Holly Wade. Father Pete received extensive education from Vanderbilt University, Miami University in Ohio, and The University of the South. He has received Masters Degrees in History, Philosophy, English, Educational Psychology, and Psychology. He was a teacher for 18 years, at Ensworth, Harpeth Hall, and Franklin Road Academy. Father Pete was past Rector of Church of the Resurrection in Loudon, TN, St. Paul’s Episcopal Church in Kingsport, TN, Church of Our Savior in Gallatin, TN, and St. Michael’s Anglican Church in Gallatin. In addition, he was founding Chaplain for the Gallatin Police Department and Director of Spirituality for Pathfinders and Buffalo Valley. Online condolences may be submitted at familyheritagefh.com.
