Obituary of Sammy D. Williams

Sammy D. Williams, age 71 of Bethpage, passed away on Saturday, April 6, 2024.  Celebration of Life Service, with Military Honors, will be Sunday, April 28th at 3:00 p.m. in the chapel of Sellars Family Heritage at Gallatin, with Bro. Michael Nesbitt officiating. Visitation will be Sunday, April 28th from 1:00 p.m. until time of service at 3:00 p.m.  In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, TN  38105-9959.

Mr. Williams was born November 1, 1952 in Gallatin to the late Dave B. Williams and Lois Neal Williams.  In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by sister, Gail Mason.  He is survived by wife of 10 years, Angela Downs Williams of Bethpage and step-son, Sloan Forbes of Gallatin.  Mr. Williams served our country in the United States Army for 6 years in Germany and during the Vietnam Era.  After serving in the Army, he moved to Memphis, where he attended Memphis State University later attending Central Texas College and Volunteer State Community College.  After college, he was in restaurant management, managing several well know establishments, before opening his own restaurants.  One of his restaurants was “Sammy D’s” in Memphis, next to Sun Records.  He later was the Director of Food and Beverage of Graceland working under the direction of Priscilla Presley, with additional management of Lisa Marie’s Jet, the ticket office, and Graceland’s Restaurant.  At the age of 30, he began playing music for a living.   Memphis gave him the opportunity to play in many different live-music venues.  Sammy then began opening for many well-known artists.  After attending Columbia School of Broadcasting, he moved to Nashville.  He continued his true love of music, playing at many locations across Middle Tennessee.   Sammy D recorded 4 albums during his career.  He enjoyed carpentry, was an avid Tennessee Titan’s Fan, loved to travel between his properties in Colorado and Tennessee.  He will be greatly missed.  Online condolences may be submitted at familyheritagefh.com.
