Obituary of Dorothy Pardue Painter

Dorothy "Dotty" Pardue Painter, 99, passed away peacefully April 24, 2015 at Gallatin Health Care, where she had lived for the past two years. She was born in Gallatin, Tennessee on September 2, 1915 to the late Mary Cox and George Wheeler Pardue. She was a graduate of Gallatin High School; Sullins College in Bristol, Virginia; and earned a B.A. degree from Vanderbilt University where she was a member of Kappa Alpha Theta sorority. In March, 1940 she married the late George Marion Kendrick Painter of Memphis and settled in Nashville. After living briefly in Orlando, FL., they moved to Gallatin where they remained and raised their family. Dotty was an active member of First Presbyterian Church of Gallatin and Honorary Life Member of Presbyterian Women. She was also the third female Elder to be elected since the Church was established in 1828. She was the last surviving member of the "Nashville Sewing Club" and was proud of the twenty-five years she volunteered as a Pink Lady at Sumner Regional Hospital. Along with her husband, George, Dotty was preceded in death by her sisters, Mary Lee (Mrs. Charles) Tomkins and Isabelle Jones, both of Gallatin. Dotty is survived by her two sons, Ken (Lucy) Painter of Dunwoody, GA and G.W. (Dianne) Painter of London, KY, as well as her five grandchildren, Tate(Jennifer) Painter of Decatur, GA; Mary Kathryn (Mike) Treusdell of Huntsville, AL; Branon (Sarah) Painter of Woodbury, MN; Wheeler Painter and Marion Painter, both of London, KY and two great grandchildren, Lucy and Knox Treusdell of Huntsville,AL. A Celebration of Life Service will be held on May 2, 2015 at 2:00 PM at The First Presbyterian Church of Gallatin with a reception to follow at the Church. In lieu of flowers, contributions in Dotty's memory may be made to the First Presbyterian Church, 167 W. Main Street, Gallatin, TN 37066.
