Obituary of Thomas Milton Gatlin

GATLIN, Jr., Thomas Milton, beloved husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather, peacefully joined his Heavenly family on October 22, 2012. Mr. Gatlin was born May 29, 1920 to Vinnie Lee and Thomas Milton Gatlin. He was preceded in death by two sisters, Katherine Jones and Mary Huff and a brother, Nolen Gatlin. He is survived by his wife of 66 years, Martha Ann; children, Sharon, Thomas, Susan, Jonathan (Julie), Connie (David) and David (Marie); grandchildren, Jeff, John, Tommie Kay, Greg, Amy, Rachael, Dillon, Ashley, Collin, Hayley, Christina and Sarah; great-grandchildren, Tanner and Sydney. Mr. Gatlin was a graduate of DuPont High School. He enlisted in the Army Air Force in 1942, and served a tour of duty overseas during WWII. After his military service, he attended George Peabody College, where he obtained a degree in chemistry, and went on to a successful career in the pharmaceutical industry. Following his retirement, Mr. Gatlin enjoyed life on a small acreage in Mt. Juliet tending to a few head of livestock and gardening. He was a member of Cook's United Methodist Church in Mt. Juliet for 45 years, and most recently taught the adult Bible Study Class. Always the caring provider, his presence will be missed by a large and loving family. Funeral services will be held Wednesday, October 24th at 2pm at Cook's United Methodist Church Pastor Lee Stevenson officiating and Rev. Roland Scruggs assisting. Interment will follow the services at Mt. Juliet Memorial Gardens with Dillon Gatlin, John Gatlin, Collin Gatlin, Darren Welch, Allan Lemon, Gregg Steinberg and Gray Gatlin serving as pallbearers. Visitation with the family will be Tuesday, October 23rd from 4-8 pm at Sellars Funeral Home at Mt. Juliet and from 1-2pm on Wednesday at the church. Arrangements by Sellars Funeral Home at Mt.
