Obituary of Margaret Mary Mackie

Margaret Mary Mackie (nee Rowan) of Hermitage passed away on March 27, 2014. Margaret was born October 19, 1940, in Killybegs, County Donegal, Ireland. She was preceded in death by her loving husband of 22 years, Peter Mackie; parents, Denis and Rose Rowan; and sister-in-law Patsy Rowan. She is survived by her brothers, Pat Rowan, Donal (Bridie) Rowan, and Tom (Rose) Rowan; sisters, Rose (Chris) Palko and Alice (Ivan) Neal; son, Joel (Gail) Mackie; dear friend, Vera Smith, who was like a daughter; many nieces, nephews and Godchildren; and a wonderfully supportive caring circle of friends and neighbors. Raised in the beautiful seaport of Killybegs, she always held tightly to her Irish heritage and retained her wonderful Irish brogue, even after becoming an American citizen. Margaret came to the US in July of 1961 and remained here for the rest of her years, but always relished the occasional trip "home." She faced every challenge armed with her faith and determination to persevere. Funeral Mass will be held Tuesday, April 1st at 1 pm at Holy Rosary Catholic Church, 194 Graylynn Drive, Nashville. Interment will follow at Mt. Juliet Memorial Gardens. Visitation with the family will be Monday, March 31st from 3-5 pm at Holy Rosary Catholic Church and one hour prior to the Mass on Tuesday, April 1st. Arrangements by Sellars Funeral Home at Mt.
