Obituary of Glyn Edward Newton

Glyn Edward Newton passed away on Friday, July 11, 2014 in Monteagle, Tennessee. Glyn Ed was born on his family's farm in Bonnertown, Tennessee on April 24, 1942. After graduating from Loretta High School, he attended the University of Tennessee in Knoxville where he received a degree in Agriculture and was President of Alpha Gamma Rho fraternity. On April 15, 1965 he married Lynda Joyce Leftwich and soon after began a life-long career with Dale Carnegie. He was passionate about teaching the Dale Carnegie principles to thousands of students across the Southeast with Lynda at his side. He showed a special interest in those who were self-motivated and driven to succeed. Always searching for ways to be helpful, his business advice was highly sought by those with business challenges that needed critical evaluation and decisive action. He was a proud "Paul Harris Fellow" in the Rotary Club and sponsored numerous others to receive the same award. Upon retirement, Glyn Ed enjoyed spending time managing his rental properties, volunteering his business expertise, traveling with family, and playing an active roll in his grandchildren's activities. Glyn Ed was preceded in death by his parents, William Edward Newton and Rhoda Hammond Newton, and his brother Wesley Newton. In addition to Lynda, his wife of 49 years, he is survived by his brother Rual (Elawese) Newton, two children Missy (Lynn) Ridgeway and Andy Newton. He has four grandchildren: Molly, James, Jon Stewart, and Mary Claire Ridgeway. The family will receive friends at the First United Methodist Church in Lebanon, Tennessee from 1:30 to 3 p.m. Tuesday, July 15, 2014 in Bryant Chapel. His Memorial Service, conducted by Dr. Mike Ripski and Rev. David Hesson, will begin in the main sanctuary immediately following the visitation. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be sent to the First United Methodist Church for Brooks House at 415 West Main Street, Lebanon, TN 37087 or the Concord United Methodist Church's Habitat for Humanity program at 11020 Roane Drive, Knoxville, TN 37934.
