Elliott Sloan Powell, age 74 of Gallatin, passed away Thursday June 18, 2015. Funeral Service will be Monday at 1 p.m. from the chapel of Alexander Funeral Home. Interment will follow in Hermitage Memorial Gardens. Visitation will be Sunday from 5 - 7 p.m. and Monday from 11 a.m. until time of service. Born in New Albany Indiana on February 27th, 1941 to Hiram "Bud" & Alma Powell. Loving & devoted husband of 40 years to Jacqueline Kimbrough Powell, proud father to his five girls, Jana Galaktiadis, Jennifer (Neil) Novak, Angela (Dewayne) Alexander, Amy (Jason) Phelan, April (Jeremy) Powell Crantek, most adoring "Paw Paw" to his 9 grandchildren and 1 great-grand child, and big brother to Barbara (Terry) Finnerty. Courageous, independent, and stubborn to the end, his sarcasm, quick wit, and one-liners provided endless laughs for all he encountered. An avid fisherman, collector & care-taker of stray animals, lover of beach vacations, master of the friendly "pop-by", proud Litton Lion (class of '59), master gardener & devoted family man. His favorite days were spent on the beautiful banks of the Obee River, alongside his fishing buddy, Randall Gray, with Jackie and dog Jack back at the deck playing music and making dinner. Gentle kindness, laughter, & loyal friendship was the driving force that moved him through this world, and it will be his greatest legacy. We will be doing our part to carry that on. In lieu of flowers, please consider making a donation to St. Jude Children's Hospital OR plant a flower in his memory, watch it grow with someone you love, then clip and bring inside to enjoy. It is truly what brought him the most peace and quiet joy in his full and rich life.
