Obituary of Charles Hill Beaty

Charles Hill Beaty, 66, passed away on Friday, June 12, in Gallatin, TN. Mr. Beaty was born in Portland, TN, on March 11, 1949, and was a 1966 graduate of Portland High School. He graduated from Austin Peay State University in 1970 with his Bachelor's of Science in Economics and received his Doctorate of Jurisprudence from the University of Tennessee Law School in 1973. Mr. Beaty married Montee Kittrell of Gallatin on December 21, 1973. He practiced law in Gallatin for over 40 years. During his professional career, he also owned First Sumner Title. He was appointed as Sumner County Criminal Court Judge by his political hero, Governor Ned Ray McWherter, in 1994. Mr. Beaty was heavily involved in the Tennessee Democratic Party, serving as a delegate to the 1992 Democratic National Convention. He was a saxophonist who loved oldies, an avid reader and a prolific story/joke teller. He obtained his pilot's license in 1971and enjoyed flying. He also loved classic cars with a special affinity for 1957 Chevys. Mr. Beaty's wit and booming voice made him memorable to everyone he met. Beaty was preceded in death by his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Charles Randolph Beaty of Portland. He is survived by his wife, Montee, three sons, Jonathan (DeAnne), Eric (Nan) and Seth and four grandchildren, Hunter, Harrison, Mary Lu and Michael. Arrangements are being handled by Alexander Funeral Home. Visitation will be held on Monday at 11 a.m. at the Gallatin Church of Christ Christian Enrichment Center. The Celebration of Life will begin at 2 p.m. at Gallatin Church of Christ. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Gallatin Church of Christ.
