Obituary of Barbara W. Smith

Barbara Smith passed away on May 26, 2015 at age 79 after a short illness at Lebanon Health and Rehab Center. Born in Kenna, WV to the late Alton and Cora Monday, Barbara lived most of her life in the Charleston, WV area before moving to Lebanon, TN. In addition to her parents, Barbara is preceded in death by husband Joseph J. Smith and sister Sue Monday Elkins. Barbara is survived by son John A. Ward (Tina), grandson Zachariah Ward, sister Jacqueline Monday Heywood, stepbrother Bob Burgess (Mary), several stepchildren, nieces, nephews, grand-nieces and grand-nephews and many other family members and friends. Barbara was a member of Hillcrest Baptist Church and sang in the choir in Lebanon, TN. She retired as an executive secretary in research for Union Carbide Corporation/Dow Chemical. Her strong faith and devotion to her family and friends will be missed by those who knew her. The family will be receiving friends at Sellars Funeral Home, Lebanon TN, on Friday from 4-8 p.m. and on Saturday from noon until the service. The Funeral Service, conducted by Pastor Glenn Denton, is 2 p.m. Saturday, May 30, 2015 in the chapel of Sellars Funeral Home. There will be a memorial service in Charleston, WV in late June.
