Obituary of Edward Lee Sellars

Eddie Sellars, age 67, passed away on May 3, 2011 after an extended battle with cancer. The family will be receiving friends at Sellars Funeral Home in Lebanon on Thursday, May 5th from 2-8 p.m. Funeral services, conducted by Reverend Danny Sellars, are 1 p.m. Friday, May 6 at the Mt. Juliet Worship Center, 495 Mt. Juliet Rd. Visitation at the church is from 11 a.m. until the service. Interment in the Wilson County Memorial Gardens. A native of Wilson County, son of the late Reverend Walter and Nelda Roberts Sellars, and one of the all-time great football players at Lebanon High, Mr. Sellars made health and physical conditioning his life"s work " having been affiliated with the fitness industry for 50 years. He was the owner of Nashville"s Hermitage Fitness Center, recently celebrating 23 years of business. Prior to opening his Hermitage center, Mr. Sellars was the former owner of Lebanon"s Grecian Health and Fitness Center, the Donelson Health Club and the Nashville Downtown Athletic Club. He was a 1961 graduate of Lebanon High where he was elected President of his senior class, captain and Most Valuable Player of the Blue Devil football team. Mr. Sellars attended a year of post graduate school at Castle Heights Military Academy where he played football. He was a veteran of the U.S. Navy, where he served aboard the USS Saratoga. A champion Golden Gloves boxer, he graduated from Middle Tennessee State University in 1974 with a Bachelor of Science degree, majoring in physical education with a minor in history. Mr. Sellars was a member of the Lebanon, Mt. Juliet, Donelson, and Hermitage Chambers of Commerce, the Sertoma Club and Lions Club and was heavily involved in coaching youth football. An avid golfer and tennis player, he attended the Mt. Juliet Worship Center and the Hermitage Hills Baptist Church. Mr. Sellars was a loyal University of Tennessee Vols fan and he completed the Music City Half Marathon in 2009. Survivors include wife: Barbara Hensley Sellars; children: Michelle (David) Henslee, Vonda (Greg) Paris and Eddie (Kristi) Sellars Jr.; grandchildren: Brittney Henslee, Kelsey and Chloe Paris, Addison and Blakely Sellars; siblings: Patsy (Hayward) Phillips, Evon Adkerson, Donna (Bobby) Thompson, Billy (Jan) Sellars, Ron (Beverly) Sellars and Reverend Danny (Kathy) Sellars; many beloved nieces, nephews and cousins as well as his Hermitage Fitness Center Family.
