Obituary of Don Shates

Don Shates, age 78, passed away on January 18, 2014. The Funeral Service, conducted by Brother Jason Bybee, is 7 p.m. Tuesday, January 21, 2014 at Sellars Funeral Home. Visitation at the funeral home is from 4 p.m. until the service. Honorary Pallbearers: Co-workers at Ford Glass, and his golfing buddies and bowling buddies. Mr. Shates worked at Ford Glass for 40 years, and was a member of the Maple Hill Church of Christ. He is survived by wife of 58 years, Clis Bassham Shates; grandchild: Sunny (Jason) Bybee; daughter-in-law: Stephanie Shates; great-grandchildren: Joshua, Abby Kate, and Jackson Bybee; sister-in-law: Sarah Pierce; nephew: Danny Ray (Ann) Cobb; and numerous nieces and nephews. He is preceded in death by sons Roger Ray Shates and Alan Neal Shates, grandson Roger Alan Shates, parents Marvin Lewis and Birdie McCormick Shates, Sr., and brothers Marvin Lewis Shates, Jr. and Charles D. Shates.
