Obituary of Clara J. Young

Mrs. Clara Jane Herlick Appleby Young passed away peacefully on Saturday March 14, 2015 at approximately 3:45pm . She was a "Young" 96 1/2 years of age. Her family was with her at the time of her passing. Born Clara Jane Herlick on July 20, 1918, in Judson, California. She was raised on her Parent's Ranch in Victorville, California. She shared her youth with her sister Helen, brother Joseph (Connie), and sister Louise. Clara outlived all of her siblings. She was preceded in death by her loving husband, Louis W. Young, her siblings mentioned above and her parents: Peter and Anna Herlick. She is survived by her five children: Sandra Louise Bumbalough, John Allen Appleby, Michael Anthony Appleby, Pamela Jean Waters, Robert Louis Appleby. In addition: She is survived by 3 grandchildren: Pam (Wayne) Null, Lenita (Gregg) Hall, Jennifer (Doug) VanVoorst, 7 great-grandchildren: Tasha Null, Katiegrace Rodriguez, Jacob Rodriguez, Jessica Rodriguez, Haley Gray, Hana VanVoorst, Wiley VanVoorst. Clara lived a full, exciting and successful life. She was one of the first Female Graduates of UCLA, graduating in 1939 with her Bachelor of Arts Degree. Clara was a lifelong sports fan: GO UCLA BRUINS- BEAT USC!!! Originally a Stay-at-Home-Mom, then a Working-Mom with 5 children, she advanced in her career to be a Manager of the Flexi-Writer Department for Garret Air-Research, in El Segundo California; an Aero-Space Firm that Contracted with the Department of Defense, NASA, and Prime Defense Contractors. Clara has requested that no Ceremony be held and that her body be cremated. Clara had an abiding love of the Ocean and she wished that her ashes be scattered at Sea in the Pacific Ocean .
