Obituary of Vesta Oldham Locke

LOCKE, Vesta Oldham, age 95 of Mt. Juliet passed away November 15, 2010. Preceded in death by husband, James Lucian Locke, Sr.; parents, R. V. Cawthon and Dovie Talbot Cawthon; children, Art Locke and Alison Engles; sisters, Sarah Garner, Nancy Hackney, Mary Poe Williams, Evelyn Jennings, Jamie Goldsberry and Margaret Cawthon; and brother, Rufus Cawthon. Survived by sons, Jimmy (Helen) Locke and Steve Locke; daughter, Pat Jennings; grandchildren, Jimbo (Judy) Locke, Jason (Kim) Locke, Jeremy (Cindy) Locke, Jenni Locke, Jessi Locke, Tonya Richards (Mark) Hinesley, Tony (Amanda) Sparkman, Leslie Collier Massey, Scott (Christy) Collier, Cheryl Engles (Chris) Palmer, Jeff (Kristen) Engles, Chad Locke, Matt Locke, Tracy Ward, US Army Major Brian (Bethany) Locke, Greg (Melissa) Locke, Stephanie Locke, Alison Locke, and Joseph Locke; and numerous great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews. Vesta was the oldest member of the Mt. Juliet church of Christ in age and tenure. She worked for the US Postal Service for 35 years and was a certified Postmaster by President Harry Truman. She also worked at Lakeshore Retirement Center. Memorial contributions may be made to the Mt. Juliet church of Christ Building Fund, 1940 N. Mt. Juliet Road, Mt. Juliet, TN 37122. The family would like to extend a special thank you to Pat Jennings and Matthew Locke, special caregivers. Funeral services will be held Friday, November 19th at 11am at Mt. Juliet church of Christ with Bro. Bill Speight, Pastor Gregory Locke and Pastor Jim Locke officiating. Interment will follow the service at the Mt. Juliet Memorial Gardens with grandsons and great-grandsons serving as pallbearers. Visitation with the family will be Wednesday, November 17th from 5-8 pm at Sellars Funeral Home at Mt. Juliet, Thursday, November 18th from 5-8 pm at Mt. Juliet church of Christ, and Friday, November 19th from 10am until time of service at the church.
