Obituary of Arthur Jackson

Services for Mr. Jackson are Monday, December 5, 2011 at 1 p.m. at Sellars Funeral Home in Lebanon with Brother Billie Friel officiating, assisted by Brother David Jicka. Visitation is Sunday, December 4th from 4-8 p.m. and Monday from 11 a.m. until service time. Interment in Cedar Grove Cemetery. Pallbearers: Tyler Jackson, Trevor Jackson, Tony McFalls, Bobby Vaughn, Neil Montgomery and Charles Montgomery. Mr. Jackson, 91, died Friday, Dec. 2, 2011 at University Medical Center. Known by "Gid" to most of his friends and family, Mr. Jackson was born in Collinwood Tennessee in 1920. His family was originally from Northern Alabama and was engaged in the logging business. The family moved to middle Tennessee in the late 20's and remained there until present. As a young man he joined the CCCs and became a stone mason at the Cumberland Mountain State Park where he built decorative walls around the lake. Shortly after leaving this job he entered World War II in the United States Army where he served until the end of the war as a medical technician in the 7th Army hospital receiving the following citations: American Theater Ribbon, European African Middle Eastern Theater Ribbon with 3 bronze Service stars, Good Conduct Medal and the World War II Victory Medal. Arthur returned home after the war and started a logging business with Bill Owens of Smith County Tennessee. He left the logging business in 1952 and started working in the Drilling and blasting business under the name of Eatherly and Jackson Drilling Co. where he remained until going into business with his son Gilbert Jackson in 1976. Arthur and his son worked together for over 20 years under the trade style of Jackson Enterprises Inc. This company worked on Hydroelectric dams, road building, mining, geotechnical drilling, water wells, and oil and gas well development along with various other related projects. Arthur retired in 1992. Arthur was a long time member of Fairview Baptist Church of Lebanon where he served as a deacon and Sunday School Superintendent until moving to Mt Juliet where he served as a deacon at First Baptist Church for many years. At his death he was a member of Hillcrest Baptist Church in Lebanon. He is preceded in death by parents, William A. and Crinna Brownfield Jackson; brothers, George Vollie, J.B., Carl and Floyd Jackson. Survivors include: wife of 65 years, Edith Vaughn Jackson; son, Arthur Gilbert Jackson; grandchildren, Arthur Tyler Jackson, William Trevor Jackson and Laura Jackson Suddeth; great-grandchildren, Grace and Colton; and sister, Martha Vaden.
