Obituary of Sylvanus Watts

WATTS, Sylvanus Dorris, age 82, the soul of Mr. Watts made its transition into the realm of glory on February 12, 2011. He was preceded in death by his first wife, Lois Linville Watts and is survived by children, Sylvia (Gregory) Blann, Taryon (Timothy) Carney, Burton (Barbara) Watts, Lisa (Michael) Russell and Cheryl (Robert) Smith; brothers, Hugo (Sue) Watts and Cecil (Daisy) Watts; sisters, Betty Hooper and Mildred Overby; and grandchildren, Magan, Claire, Tyler, Clayton, Chelsea, Cayman, Garan and Lacy; and three great-grandchildren. He is also survived by wife, Barbara Rediker Powell Watts and her children, Brenda Powell Butler, Judy Powell, Randy (Sheila) Powell and Sandra (Michael) Claiborne; grandchildren, Dennis, Matthew, Stephen and Sarah; and four great-grandchildren. Staff Sgt. Watts (ret.) served in the US Army for twenty years, and later retired from both the Rodeway Inn and the Davidson County Sheriff's Dept. A member of Beckwith Missionary Baptist Church, he spent his later years gardening, fishing and hand-carving and giving away walking canes and staffs made with local saplings. He was the youngest son of George and Maggie Watts' 15 children. Visitation will be on Monday, February 14th at Sellars Funeral Home at Mt. Juliet from 4-9 pm and Tuesday, February 15th at Anderson-Garrett in Joelton, TN from 9 am � 2 pm. Funeral service will be Tuesday, February 15th at 2 pm with Rev. Danny Tomlinson officiating.
