Campbell,Donald Llew, of Lebanon. Passed away on Tues, May 11, 2010 Alive Hospice at St. Thomas Hospital. America mourns the loss of another brave WWII veteran..... Born Dec 20,1924 in Athol, Mass. Preceded in death by his parents, John W. and Leona Brown Campbell and granddaughter Jennifer Lynn Campbell. Survived by wife of 65 years, Peggy Westmoreland Campbell; sister: Jean Gearing, San Diego CA; daughters: Melinda (Bill) Campbell, Powder Springs, GA, Melanie (Tommy) Crockett, Lebanon, Maryllew Campbell (Partlow) of Brentwood, Lisa (Buddy) Ingram, Carthage, Lebanon; grandsons: Michael (Paola) Partlow of Los Angeles, James Daniel Partlow, Brentwood, Ian (Banica) Crockett, Andy (Keisha) Campbell, Dacula, GA, Nathan Campbell, Powder Springs, GA; step-grandsons, Jacob Ingram, Winchester, Tyler Ingram,Louisville, KY; granddaughters: Maggie (David)Silvey, San Antonio, TX, Mary Ellen (Craig) Blackstone, Dallas, TX, Emily (Joel) Smartt, Pearland, TX, Catherine (Ollihum) Dye, Hermitage; 14 great-grandchildren; nieces: Robin (Gary) Stallins, San Diego, CA. Margie Patton, Seattle,WA, Laura (Sam) Samal, Asheville, NC; nephew: Chris (Janelle) Gearing, Stewart, FL. Mr. Campbell graduated from Admiral Farragut Naval Prep School in Toms River, N.J. and was selected 3rd Alternate for the U.S. Naval Academy. He attended Norwich University. He enlisted in the Army Air Corp in 1943. Received his pilot wings at Foster Field, Victoria, TX. He was the youngest 2nd Lt. in a class of 300. He was 1 of 4 in his class of 300 picked to attend Central Instructor's School, Randolph Filed, TX. Was graduated with Instructor's rating in 1945. He was a flight instructor at Advanced Flying School, Foster Field, Victoria, TX 1945-1946. He joined the Tenn. Air National Guard in 1954 and piloted jet aircraft until 1959 with the rank of Captain. Mr. Campbell was a member of Lebanon Rotary from 1960-1967, was on Middle TN Council Boy Scouts of America, Member Wilson Co. Library Board as chairman of the Building Committee, Trustee in Highland Rim Regional Library Ctr. in Murfreesboro. Advisor in Jr. Achievement of Lebanon, Director of Wilson Co. Chamber of Commerce, 1965-1968. Director of Lebanon Y.M.C.A. '65-'68. Director TN Retail Hdwe. Assoc. 1964-1970. Senior Warden, Church of the Epiphany, Episcopal. Mr. Campbell had a long and successful career as a salesman with Belknap Manufacturing and Simplicity Manufacturing Co., Was co-owner of Wilson County Hardware and he and his wife enjoyed a "working retirement" as advertising account executives with Rand McNally Campground Publications. The family would like to thank the caregivers at Pavilion in Lebanon, the nursing staff of 2 North at UMC and the Doctors at St. Thomas Hospital and the staff of Alive Hospice. The family will receive friends at Sellars Funeral Home on Sunday, May 16th from 1:00 pm until the service at 3:00 pm with Pastor Matt Steinhauer officiating. Honorary Pallbearers: Sons-in-Law, Tommy Crockett, Bill Campbell, Buddy Ingram. Grandsons, Ian Crockett,Michael and James Daniel Partlow, Andy and Nathan Campbell, Jacob and Tyler Ingram.
