Obituary of Peggy Westmoreland Campbell

Campbell, Peggy W. of Lebanon, TN passed away on July 22, 2011 at University Medical Center. Born February 25, 1925 in Carthage, TN preceded in death by parents John Thomas and Margaret Elizabeth (Ligon) Westmoreland, husband of 65 Years Donald Llew Campbell, sister Miriam Westmoreland Patton, granddaughter Jennifer Lynn Campbell, and brothers-in-law Richard Patton and David Gearing. Survived by daughters: Melinda (Bill) Campbell, Melanie (Tommy) Crockett, Maryllew Campbell (Partlow), Lisa (Buddy) Ingram, grandsons: Michael (Paola) Partlow, James Daniel Partlow, Ian (Banica) Crockett, Andy (Keisha) Campbell, Nathan Campbell, Jacob Ingram and Tyler Ingram, granddaughters: Maggie (David) Silvey, Mary Ellen (Craig) Blackstone, Emily (Joel) Smartt, Catherine (Ollihum) Dye. Sixteen great grandchildren with one more on the way. Also survived by sister-in-law Jean Gearing and nieces Robin (Gary) Stallins, Margie Patton, Laura Samal and nephew Chris (Janelle) Gearing. Peggy attended Ward Belmont College for Young Women after graduating from Smith County High School in Carthage, TN. After many years as a beloved Avon lady in Carthage and Lebanon, Peggy went back to college to follow her childhood dream to becoming a nurse. She graduated in 1972 with a degree in Nursing from MTSU. She worked as a RN at Baptist, Parkview, and McFarland Hospitals. Her love of helping others lead her to begin teaching the LPN class at Carthage General Hospital where she was also Director of Nursing. Peggy and her husband, Don, enjoyed a working retirement for 20 years as advertising account executive of Rand McNally Campground publications. Peggy was active in her community. She was part of the team who brought the Girl Scouts to Lebanon. She was also a member of Beta Sigma Phi and the Republican Women"s Club. She was a Charter member of Westland Methodist Church where she sang in the choir for many years. Peggy was a lover of humanity, nature and animals. Her genuine and sweet affection was embraced by all who knew her. Peggy was a talented poet, artist, writer and cook. She loved to read and was known by her daughters as a consummate wordsmith. She was the best wife, momma and Nanny to her large extended family. She was quick to smile and laugh and was known for her powerful bear hugs. She will be missed greatly by all of her family and friends. The family would like to thank Peggy"s many caregivers during her illness, the nursing staff of 2 North at UMC and Dr Venkatesh Madhav for their loving compassion. Join the family in celebration of her life on Monday, July 25, 2011 at Sellars Funeral Home at 4:00 pm for visitation and for the service at 6 pm. Pastor Matt Steinhauer will officiate. Honorary Pallbearers: Tommy Crockett, Bill Campbell, Buddy Ingram, Ian Crockett, Michael Partlow, James Daniel Partlow, Andy Campbell, Nathan Campbell, Jacob Ingram and Tyler Ingram. Memorial contributions may be made to an animal rescue organization of your choice or to the Alzheimer"s Association.
