Obituary of Owens Boomer Castleman

CASTLEMAN, Owens Boomer was born in Los Angeles, California on July 18, 1945 and grew up in Dallas, Texas. He went to be with the Lord on Tuesday September 1, 2015 after a battle with cancer. He attended St. Mark’s School of Texas, Woodberry Forest School of Virginia and graduated from Occidental College. His music career began in high school. His first taste of success came under the pseudonym Boomer Clarke. Together with Travis Lewis, (aka Michael Martin Murphy), they performed as the Lewis and Clarke Expedition and co-wrote songs. Boomer owned the BNA record production company. He also invented the Palm Pedal, the Bigsby/ Castleman device that allowed guitar players to execute pedal steel-style string bends. Boomer was preceded in death by his parents, William P. Castleman, Jr. and Barbara Boomer Castleman McCombs. He is survived by his daughters, Anne Marie Castleman Middleton and Breck; his sisters, Barbara (Steve) Whipple, Jane (Jack) McNairy, Cathy (Tom) Greene and Sally Marston; his brother, Bill (Lynne) Castleman; and his loyal friend, Lois Hess.
