Obituary of John H. Boyers

John H. Boyers, age 85 of Gallatin, passed away Friday, December 18, 2015. Funeral Service will be at Gallatin First Presbyterian Church on Sunday, December 20th at 2:00 p.m. with Dr. Charles Moffatt and Rev. Kyle Gott officiating. Interment will follow in Gallatin Cemetery with John Ross, Thomas Boyers,V, Butch Moore, John Berwind, John Wade, and Richard Suter serving as pallbearers. Honorary pallbearers will be Bob Ingrum, Eugene Branham, Todd Burwell, John Garrott, Rex Goostree, Robert Goodall and Wilson Taylor. Visitation will be Saturday, December 19th from 3:00-7:00 p.m. at Alexander Funeral Home. Mr. Boyers was born June 20, 1930 in Dardanelle, AR, son of the late Judge Thomas Boyers III and Johnnie Mae Harkey Boyers. In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by son, John Harkey Boyers, Jr., brother, Judge Thomas Boyers IV and sister, Betty Ann Boyers. He is survived by wife, Dean Nichols Boyers of Gallatin; daughter, Karen Jones Hyatt of Gallatin; grandchildren, John W. Ross and Kerri M. Ross. Mr. Boyers graduated from Gallatin High School in 1948 where he was a member of the football team. He attended Tennessee Tech University and Cumberland University before serving his country in the U. S. Air Force for four years during the Korean War period. He was a member of First Presbyterian Gallatin serving as a Deacon and a Trustee, a Paul Harris Fellow of the Gallatin Noon Rotary Club, American Legion, VFW and Elks Lodge #2547. John was president of Gallatin Chamber of Commerce and served as a board of director on the Volunteer State Community College Foundation. His career in the banking industry began when he opened the first Associates Capital Finance Company in 1961 in Gallatin. Then he worked at various banks as an officer including First & Peoples Bank, First Tennessee, Commerce Union, Sovereign, Bank of America and Cumberland Bank. He was named the first bank president at Citizens Bank in Gallatin where he remained until his retirement.
