Obituary of Evelyn Apple Cunningham Smith

SMITH, EVELYN APPLE CUNNINGHAM – age 87 of Mt. Juliet, TN. Evelyn was born July 1, 1928 and passed away on March 7, 2016. She became a member of Woodbine Church of Christ in 1963, where she dedicated her life to her family, church, and community. She then moved her membership to Mt. Juliet Church of Christ where she was very active. She worked at Genesco and retired after 37 years of service. In 2004 Ms. Smith was honored by Ross Dress for Less as the Volunteer of the Year for her efforts throughout the community. She never met a stranger and thrived on always giving back. Her pride and joy were her grandchildren. Preceded in death by her parents, James Marlin and Mary Ila Apple; husbands, John Franklin Cunningham and Mitchell J. Smith: step-children, Betty Ann Stevens and Sam Smith. Survived by children, Roger (Lucia) Cunningham, Tim (Billie) Cunningham, Andy Cunningham, and Lisa Baker; step-children, John Franklin (Sandra) Cunningham, Jr., Brenda Edwards, Pat (Roger) Gonzales, Richard (Janie) Cunningham and Sherry Stokes; grandchildren, Kelli (Jeremy) Lawson, Jennifer (Cory) Jones, JT (Ashley) Cunningham, Caleb Baker, Shannon Cunningham, Chasidy Baker, Christian Cunningham, and Jade Cunningham; great-grandchildren, Cheyenne, Lelan and Lena Lawson, Lacey Cunningham, and Paisley Jones; brother, Lewis Bryan Apple; sisters, Maurine (Bun) York, Nell (Doug) Highers, and Pat (Tom) England; sister-in-law Glenda Bohannan and Lois Cunningham; and many nieces and nephews. Services will be Friday, 2pm, Sellars at Mt. Juliet with Bro. David Shannon officiating. Interment will follow at Mt. Juliet Memorial Gardens. Active Pallbearers: Timothy McMahon, JT Cunningham, Caleb Baker, Jeremy Lawson, Cory Jones, and Moises Felipa. Honorary Pallbearers: Mike Apple and Lelan Lawson.
