Obituary of Jean Reynolds Murphy

Jean Reynolds Murphy, age 89 of Gallatin, passed away Saturday March 12, 2016. Funeral Service will be Wednesday March 16 at First Presbyterian Church of Gallatin at 11:00 a.m., with Rev. Kyle Gott officiating. Interment will follow at Sumner Memorial Gardens, with John Cothron, Dan Driver, Johnny Garrott, Darrin Wall, Tim Aston,and Mike Murphy serving as pallbearers. Visitation will be Tuesday March 15th at Alexander Funeral Home from 4:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. and Wednesday March 16th at First Presbyterian Church from 10:00 a.m. until time of service. Mrs. Murphy was born February 5, 1927 in Mt. Pleasant to the late Raymond Richard Reynolds and Velma Onita Brooks Reynolds. In addition to her parents, she is preceded in death by her husband, Claude Murphy; and brother, Raymond Richard Reynolds, Jr. She is survived by sons, Richard “Rick” Murphy (Linda) of Gallatin, and William Andrew “Andy” Murphy (Lisa) of Castalian Springs; sister, Betty Lovelady of Ormond Beach, FL.; 3 grandchildren, Heather Renee Murphy (Derrick Phillips), Hannah Andrea Murphy Wall (Darrin), and Kaitlyn Renee Murphy; and 2 great grandchildren, Hawthorne Sage Murphy Phillips, and Juniper Eve Murphy Phillips. Jean was an active member of First Presbyterian Church of Gallatin where she served as Church Secretary for 20 years. She also worked at Gallatin High school as an Assistant Librarian, and volunteered as a Pink Lady at Sumner Memorial Hospital. The family would like to thank the caregivers at Gallatin Health Care and Morningside. In lieu of flowers, donations in her memory may be made to: First Presbyterian Church.
