Obituary of Dr. Donald Alexander Cole

Dr. Don Cole, age 61, of Lebanon, passed away on April 1, 2016 at his residence. The family will be receiving friends at Sellars Funeral Home, Lebanon TN, on Sunday from 4-8 p.m. and on Monday from 2 p.m. until the service. The Funeral Service is 4 p.m. Monday, April 4, 2016 in the chapel of Sellars Funeral Home, Lebanon TN. Interment in Mt. Juliet Memorial Gardens will follow the service. Pallbearers: Evan, Ben, Colin, and Jordan Cole, Randy Colthorpe, and Dr. Jamie Rawls. Memorial Donations: Sherry’s Run (PO Box 8, Lebanon TN). Raised as an Air Force brat, Don received a basketball scholarship at Mars Hill College in Asheville NC. He attended Medical School in Virginia and then served his residency at Cook County in Chicago, which was a very exciting place to work. Don practiced Internal Medicine in Virginia until 1988 when he joined the Army and moved his family to Germany. After being the Commander at 5th General Hospital, he moved the family to DC where he did a fellowship in GI at Walter Reed Medical Center. The last station was Augusta GA where he developed telemedicine for the Army. Upon leaving the Army, they settled in Lebanon where Dr. Cole started a private practice 20 years ago. During his years in Lebanon, he served to improve the health care for his patients by building up-to-date facilities and recruiting more doctors to the area. Don also served others by doing medical mission trips in Ecuador. His hobbies were travel, beekeeping, and chickens. Don’s life was spent in service: service to his family, his patients, and his Lord. Dr. Cole is survived by his wife: Susie Cole; children: Evan (Tifany Ables) Cole, Ben (Danielle Trombi) Cole, Colin (Casey) Cole, and Jordan (Whitney) Cole; grandchildren: Carson, Caleb, and Ember Cole; and siblings: Kenneth (Mary) Cole and Phyllis (Joseph) Kotwicki. He is preceded in death by parents, Mary and Don Cole. Arrangements by Sellars Funeral Home, Lebanon TN, 615.444.9393.
