Obituary of Lula "Nokes" Moss Bone

Lula “Nokes” Moss Bone, 96, left this earth to be with her Father in Heaven on August 30, 2016 in Hendersonville, TN. Nokes was born on June 23, 1920 in Monoville (Smith County), TN to Lucy Belle Davis Moss and Lillard Thomas Moss. She was a member of the First Baptist Church in Gallatin for over 85 years. She met her lifelong love, William Leonidas “Billy” Bone on a blind date that her sister Katherine set up. She loved to tell that Katherine came home from work at Genesco one day and told her, “Nokes, Billy Bone is going to ask you for a date and you better tell him “yes.”’ Everyone who knew Katherine knew not to question her when she told you to do something, but for good reason. Nokes and Billy married on Thanksgiving Day November 26, 1940 and spent 60 wonderful years together on Red River Road on the farm where Billy was born and raised. They were blessed with two wonderful children, Charles William Bone and Lucy Katherine Bone, and hosted countless guests for any meal of the day. Sometimes guests were invited and sometimes they just dropped by, but either way they were welcomed, and didn’t leave without a full stomach and knowing they were loved. Nokes was a tireless, true Southern lady who loved God and all of His people, and would often tell her grandchildren that she would ask God every morning what she could do for someone else. Nokes is preceded in death by her husband, Billy, her daughter, Lucy Katherine Bone Orgain, her four siblings, and many of her best friends. Nokes is survived by her son, Charles William Bone (Baylor Anne), Grandchildren Charles Robert Bone (Sacha), Baylor Swindell (Ryan), Katherine Louw (Rico), Sarah Thoren (Chris), Emily Baxter (Jeff), Brian Orgain and her Son-in-Law Richard Orgain (Melissa). Her great grand children are Margaret Bone, Anne Carlen Bone, Simmons Bone, Henry Bone, Brady Swindell, Jane Swindell, Emma Louw, Hanne Louw, Isabelle Thoren, Davis Thoren, Jack Baxter, Lucy Baxter, and Hayes Baxter. Visitation will be held at First Baptist Church in Gallatin, 205 East Main Street, on Friday, September 2, 2016 at 9:30 am, and the funeral will follow at 11:00 am. Bill Trout, Jim Troutt, Paul Troutt, Wayne Vantrease, Jerry Blunkall, Frank Flynn, Perry McArthur, Guy Randall Jones, Leigh Ann Jones and Mary Greer will serve as pallbearers. Honorary pallbearers are her earthly angels, Shirley and Ron Daughtry, Mary Alice Swafford, Roxanne Holmes, Kathy McCurdy, Hannah McCurdy, and Shirley Burton. We would also like to express our gratitude to Elmcroft of Hendersonville for the love they’ve shown to our family. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Troutt Family Scholarship Funds at the First Baptist Church in Gallatin, TN. Online condolences may be submitted at alexanderfh.info Alexander Funeral Home in charge of arrangements.
