Obituary of Prentice Hayze Williams

Prentice Hayze Williams, age 84 of Gallatin, passed away Sunday October 23, 2016. Funeral Service will be Tuesday October 25th at 2:00 p.m. from the chapel of Alexander Funeral Home, with Bro. Charles Williams officiating. Interment will follow at Sumner Memorial Gardens, with family and friends serving as pallbearers. Visitation will be Tuesday October 25th from 12 noon until 2:00 p.m. Mr. Williams was born May 26, 1932 at a farmhouse in the Haydenburg community of Jackson County, TN to the late Lilbert Marshall Williams and Rovella Clark Williams. In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by brother, Marshall Williams. He is survived by wife of 61 years, Emogine Deckerd Williams of Gallatin; brother, Stan Williams (Ann) of Mt. Juliet; nieces Michelle Williams, Penny Williams, Varonda Williams Kemmerling and Renee Williams Duenckel; and nephews Butch Williams and Mike Williams. Prent, or P.W., as his friends knew him, was no stranger to hard work. Growing up on a farm, he grew, stripped and cured tobacco. He raised and sold livestock. He plowed fields with mules. His favorite was Ol’ Red, a high-strung mule that wouldn’t behave for anyone other than Prent. After graduating from Jackson County High School in 1952, he went to work on the tobacco floor in Carthage. He met the love of his life at a summer gospel meeting at Willette Church of Christ. They were married in 1955 and soon moved to Gallatin, where they have lived for the last 58 years. Prent held a variety of jobs as a young man. He worked in downtown Nashville at the Harvey’s Department Store, for a furniture and appliance store in Gallatin, on maintenance crews at the Eaton Corporation, where Emogine worked, and for Andrews Wire before going to work for himself. For a long time, Prent repaired and sold lawn mowers, Prent was happiest working a handy man. He did all sorts of odd jobs – wiring, plumbing, building and remodeling. When he wasn’t working, he loved to fish. Church was a big part of Prent and Emogine’s life, they have been members of the Nashville Road Church of Christ for nearly 60 years. Online condolences may be submitted at alexanderfh.info. Alexander Funeral Home has been entrusted with arrangements.
