Obituary of Evie M. Gammon

MRS. EVIE MAY GAMMON, age 96 of Lafayette, passed away on Saturday afternoon July 23, at the Signature Health Care Center in Jamestown, TN. Funeral Services for Mrs. Evie Gammon were conducted on Monday July 25, at 11am from the Chapel of the Alexander Funeral Home with Elder Barry Armour officiating. Interment followed in the Macon County Memorial Gardens. Joe Swindle served as honorary pallbearer. Randy Porter, Tony Gammon, Troy Gammon, Zachary Armour, Terry Plunkette, and Wayne Trapp served as pallbearers. Evie May Gammon was born on November 20, 1914 to Leslie Monroe Reeves and Martha Littie Alice Shrum Reeves better known as "Mattie". In the year of 1932, Mrs. Evie married the love of her life, William Alvis Gammon. After sharing 52 years and a son and daughter, William preceded her in death in 1984. Besides her husband, her parents also preceded her in death. Evie spent most all of her life working in their home. She enjoyed Crocheting and piecing quilts in her spare time. Also, she raised a big garden every year, and she worked hard at canning the fruits of her labor to last through the winter. She loved being with her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren. Most importantly, as a young woman, Mrs. Evie told of a night that she and William walked a good distance to see a radio that a friend had just bought. A gospel group was singing on the radio and Evie came under conviction. She told William that she was ready to go home. After they got home, she ask William to pray for her and that night she was saved by the grace of God at home in her bed. She later united with Days Crossroads Missionary Baptist Church where she remained a member until her death. She will be dearly missed by her family and all who knew her. She is survived by; Daughter and Son-in-Law, Betty Faye and Billy Choate of Lafayette, Son and Daughter-in-Law, Hollis and Clara Gammon of Jamestown, TN, Grandchildren, Tracey (Barry) Armour, Randy (Melanie) Porter, Troy (Gina) Gammon, Tony (Celeste) Gammon, 7 Great-Granchildren, and a Sister, Ezma Trapp of Nashville, TN.
