Obituary of Joanna Freeman Roark

MS. JOANNA FREEMAN ROARK - age 78 of Lafayette, Tennessee passed away early Saturday morning, August 20, 2011 at her residence. Funeral services for Ms. Joanna Freeman Roark were conducted Sunday at 2 p.m. from the Chapel of Alexander Funeral Home with Brother Terry Gilliam officiating. Serving as Pallbearers were Justin Parker, Scotty Roark, Ricky Roark, Timmy Ray Roark, David Doss, and Terry Doss. Interment followed in the Haysville Cemetery. Joanna was born on January 26, 1933 in Lafayette, Tennessee to the late J.R. and Clara Pardue Freeman. Joanna was married on August 3, 1954 to the love of her life, Billy C. Roark. They shared fifty-six wonderful years together and raised one son and three daughters. She had the role of housewife and mother, and she performed her duties extremely well. Joanna loved her husband, children, and grandchildren. Joanna and Billy were very close; you seldom saw one without the other. Billy preceded her in death on March 28, of this year leaving an empty place in Joanna's heart. Besides her husband and parents, she was also preceded in death by; Grandchild, Angel Marie Johnson. Joanna has been very active in the community; serving as a Red Cross Volunteer, working as a volunteer at Knollwood Manor, and being a member of the Lioness Club. The residents at Knollwood loved to see her come in. Joanna enjoyed her involvement in the Lioness Club in Macon County. Together Billy and Joanna attended almost every event in this community showing their support. She was always willing to do whatever it took for the "Cause". Her hobby was collecting recipe books, and she had accumulated a large selection. Her personality will be one not soon forgotten. Joanna had a love in her heart for her community and friends. She was a member of Lafayette Church of Christ. Joanna will be greatly missed by her family and all those who knew and loved her. She is survived by; Son, Billy Joe and wife Peggy Roark, Daughters, Elizabeth Ann and husband Roy Swindle, Carolyn Sue Sullivan and Steve Veatch, and Mary Ruth Crook all of Lafayette, TN, Brother, Richard Freeman of Lafayette, TN, Grandchildren, Rebecca Ann and husband Chris Harrison of Westmoreland, TN, Joseph Matthew and wife Tonia Johnson of Lafayette, TN, William Christopher Sullivan of Lebanon, TN, and Great-grandchildren, Libby Sullivan and Wyatt Harrison.
