Obituary of John Lewis Dyer

MR. JOHN LEWIS DYER- age 85 of the Williams Community of Macon County, Tennessee passed away on Thursday afternoon, September 1, 2011 at the Macon County General Hospital in Lafayette, TN. Funeral Services for Mr. John Lewis Dyer were conducted on Saturday, September 3, at 2pm from the Chapel of the Alexander Funeral Home with Elder Dean Dyer officiating. Tommy Napier served as Honorary Pallbearer. Richard Williams, Anthony West, Mitch Tomlin, Dennis Lawrence, Ben Jones, Jeff Troxell, Randy Welch, and Leslie Cook served as Active Pallbearers. Interment followed in the New Salem Cemetery in Amos, Kentucky. John Lewis Dyer was born on December 26, 1925 in Hartsville, Tennessee to the late Leslie Marshall Dyer, Sr. and Mary Jane Roberts Dyer. On September 1, 2011, at the age of 85, John departed this life. John married his sweetheart the former Mildred Reda Law on November 6, 1946, sharing sixty-three wonderful years together and raising four daughters. Mildred preceded him in death on December 28, 2009. John was a self-employed business man for several years; he helped his dad in Dyer's Grocery Store and later opened up his own store. After being in business for around twenty years, he decided to do something else. John went to work for the Macon County Highway Department, working there for eighteen years before retiring. He never slowed down; if John was not at public work you could find him in the garden. He raised huge gardens every year and would sell his produce to people in the surrounding area. He enjoyed spending the day sitting around the water's edge fishing, now and then. John had a great personality; he enjoyed poking at everyone and having fun. If you wanted to get something started, name Politics; he loved to talk about Politics. Family meant the most to John, seeing that his wife and four girls were provided for came first in his life. The grandchildren and great-grandchildren enjoyed being around their Papa, they knew fun times were just ahead. But they couldn't have enjoyed it any more than John. He was saved as a young boy and joined Zion Missionary Baptist Church where he remained a member. John will be truly missed by his family and all those who knew and loved him. He is survived by; Daughters, Jane (Andy) Baker of Hendersonville, TN, Janet Dyer of Lafayette, TN, Joan (Rusty) Williams of the Defeated Community in Carthage, TN, and Jill (Mike) Tomlin of Lafayette, TN, Grandchildren, Anthony West of White House, TN, Becky (Ben) Jones of Goodlettsville, TN, Laura (David) Johnston of Fort Benning, GA, Richard (Alesha) Williams of Baxter, TN, Russell (Lacey) Williams, Renita (Jeff) Troxell all of Carthage, TN, and Matt Tomlin and Mitch Tomlin both of Lafayette, TN, Great-Grandchildren, Jordan and Jesse Jones, Hannah and Haley West, Hurley, Heidi, and Harper Williams, and Beth Ann and Lance Johnston, Sisters, Mattie Cook and Fannie Perrigo both of Lafayette, TN, Special Sister-In-Law, Gennelle Lawrence of Amos, KY, and a host of nieces and nephews.
