Obituary of Ruby Francis Watson

RUBY FRANCIS WATSON - age 89 of Lafayette, passed away on Sunday morning October 16, 2011 at her residence. Funeral services for Ruby Francis Watson were conducted on Tuesday, October 18, at 1 p.m. from the chapel of the Alexander Funeral Home with Elder David Swindle and Brother Michael Shockley officiating. Interment followed in the Red Hill Cemetery. Ruby was married to the love of her life, Joe Douglas Watson on November 18, 1947. They enjoyed going to church, raising big gardens, and caring for their family. After sharing sixty-five years together, Joe passed away on January 1, 2003. Besides her husband and parents; brothers, Edward Shockley, Fred Shockley, Clyde Shockley, and Bedford Shockley, and sisters, Hattie Moore, Gertrude Harper, and Mae Stinson, also preceded her in death. Ruby worked for Holland Apparel Manufacturing in Kentucky as a seamstress for several years, before retiring in the early 80's. She had many talents such as crocheting and making beautiful quilts for her family which Ruby loved the most. She also had a green thumb when it came to growing flower gardens. After her health began to slow her down, Ruby liked to work crossword puzzles and talk to her family and friends on the phone to pass time by. She also enjoyed riding around with her grandson, visiting old home places, and going to visit Joe's gravesite. Ruby loved spending time with her family. When it came to children, she loved them all, and helped raise a few. After Joe passed away, Ruby had a cat to come to her home. She named him Tom-Tom. He helped fill a big void in her life and gave Ruby much love and companionship. She was saved as a young girl and joined Red Hill Missionary Baptist Church. Ruby will be greatly missed by her family and all those who knew and loved her. She is survived by; Son, Danny (Patricia) Watson of Red Boiling Springs, Daughter, Deborah Perdue of Lafayette, Grandsons, Timothy (Mindy Boothe) Taylor, David Watson all of Lafayette, and Ethan Watson of Cookeville, Granddaughter, Danielle Watson of Lafayette, Great Grandchildren, Tevin Taylor, Chanda Perdue, and Kaylee Taylor, also survive Alexander Funeral Home (615)666-2189 www.alexanderfh.com
